Professor Judy Brown’s Work to be Exhibited at Anna Maria College

Published: February 13, 2020

Montserrat Professor Judy Brown has an exhibition entitled “Judith Brassard Brown: On the Rise and the Fall” coming to the Art Center Gallery/Miriam Hall at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. The show will be on view from February 19th through April 15th, with an opening reception on Wednesday February 19th from 5 – 7 PM.

Curator Darrel Matsumoto says that “Brown’s paintings exhibit an extroverted intensity, full of feeling, to resurrect a memory of place… Brown has worked with landscape over the last decade or more. Her paintings are of exact place and memory, likely triggering a remembrance of things past. Though the landscape lacks geographical certainty, the moment of revealing the experience of place, represents a metaphorical epiphany. Brown’s expressive paintings seduce through its sensory attributes, inviting the viewer to think and feel a sense of place.”

Of her own work, Brown says “the act of making and viewing are opportunities to reflect, meditate and heal. While these landscape paintings may appear traditional at first glance, they do not create a specific location or event. Rather, they provide connections across boundaries of time or captured moments, contrast what we see with what we sense in the air or below the surface. Their qualities may activate our capacity to connect to our own stories and others, to our common ground.”

The opening reception for “Judith Brassard Brown: On the Rise and the Fall” will be on Wednesday, February 19th from 5 – 7 PM at 50 Sunset Lane, Paxton, MA.
