Intensive Art Travel Programs
Montserrat College of Art offers students and art enthusiasts a range of exciting and engaging immersive programs.
During winter break or over the summer months, our programs take you off the beaten path to unique and culturally rich locations that provide experiences far beyond standard fare. Our classes are small by design, ensuring participants an intimate and engaging travel/study experience. All courses are taught in English
Montserrat is a nationally and regionally accredited institution of higher education. Check with your home institution’s registrar to see if these programs qualify for transfer credits.
Niigata, Japan
Montserrat’s program in Niigata, Japan is a four-week intensive comprised of two courses (two elective studio courses selected from a short list of options), demonstrations and workshops in traditional Japanese art forms, and extensive travel to traditional and popular cultural sites.

This program is based at the Burren College of Art just south of Galway Bay on the western side of the country. Students can earn six credits in classes that focus on traditional storytelling and narrative art. In addition to coursework, students will enjoy visits from local folklorists and musicians, and have excursions to Galway and the Aran islands.

In this program, you’ll travel to the American Southwest, where you’ll find yourself surrounded by one of the most varied and historically rich landscapes in the United States. While exploring art museums and mesas alike, you will study the region’s intersecting cultures, and the rich traditions of the native Norteño as well as post-colonial artists working there today.
