“The finest art should be accessible to everyone, but often we must grant that access to ourselves. It’s rewarding to witness my students’ visual and verbal vocabulary expand with each assignment. Translating what we see in visual culture through formal analysis, whether written or spoken, is a key method of gaining mastery and insight.”Shawn Hill is an associate professor on the Liberal Arts faculty at Montserrat. He has been writing about art in Boston and New England since 1990, for varied publications. He has written catalog essays, curated and juried several art exhibitions and judged grant applications. He has also exhibited his own paintings and prints in solo and group shows. He has a BA in Studio Art and an MA in Art History, and began teaching in 2003. His areas of focus include Modernism, Dada and Surrealism, and the History of Photography. He is a member of AICA, the International Association of Art Critics (an NGO of UNESCO).
Education: BA in Studio Art, MA in Art History
