Loop Learning Policies & Procedures

Given Montserrat’s commitment to lifelong learning and dedication to the continued career development of its alumni, the college has opened its classroom doors to all alumni to foster their ongoing learning.

Alumni of any age who attained a BFA degree from Montserrat College of Art may enroll in up to five total Montserrat BFA (3-credit) courses over their lifetime, post-graduation, at no tuition cost. For more information on Loop Learning, contact [email protected].

Interested alumni may register for courses after the typical course registration period has ended, if remaining spots are available. Priority registration is given to enrolled BFA students actively pursuing their degrees.

Loop Learning Registration Process

  1. To view course offering, interested alumni should visit Cafe Course Selection and search by semester
  2. Loop Learners may participate in any eligible 200- and 300-level 3-credit courses that have open seats remaining.*
  3. Descriptions of all courses can be found under “Course Descriptions” on the Registrar page of Montserrat’s website and also in the course offering view
  4. Alumni may use the Loop Learning Registration Form to request the course(s) they wish to take and email the completed form to [email protected]

*Email [email protected] to determine which courses you are interested in still have open seats remaining. Some courses require additional instructor permission to register. Courses that are 6 credits (non-capstone) are eligible for Loop Learning, but count as two Loop Learning courses.

Loop Learning participants may choose to audit or take a class for credit. Auditing a class entails regular class attendance, participation and faculty/peer feedback, but auditors do not receive course credit or a letter grade at the end of the semester. Note that undergraduate cumulative GPAs are static; taking a Loop Learning course for credit will not impact your undergraduate GPA at the time of earning your BFA.

Although Loop Learning courses are tuition-free, some courses will incur additional studio, book, and material fees, such as the need to purchase “starter kits.” Some materials and starter kits may be purchased through Montserrat at a discounted rate. Inquire with your course instructor after registration about these additional costs.
