Days needed each week: 2-3

Expected duration: Academic Year

Number of Positions: 2 ( 7 hours split between 2 positions)

Supervisor: Erin Ryan Heyneman, Academic Access Studio Coordinator

Location: Academic Access Studio, Village #1A 

 

Summary of Job: Assist the Academic Access Studio Coordinator in supporting students with disabilities and other relevant projects. Create and distribute outreach materials for the office. Assist with programming and events. 

 

Duties:

  • Create outreach materials such as flyers and e-mails
  • Transcribe audio files for students who require assistance using the Natural Reader software program (will be trained)
  • Research issues related to campus accessibility
  • Assist with Academic Access programs and displays
  • Be a welcoming and engaged participant in Academic Access events and programs
  • Contribute to the welcoming and engaging atmosphere of the Academic Access Studio
  • May have side projects as assigned and discussed
  • Programming may happen in evenings

 

Relevant Experience:

  • Interest in Disability Services and / or Experience
  • Some Customer Service
  • Enthusiasm to learn and engage with student life
  • Interest in campus programming and event planning

 

Learning Outcomes: Student employees will…

  • Gain experience creating, researching, publicizing, and running student programming for the campus Academic Access Studio.
  • Gain deeper understanding and knowledge of disability issues and disability rights.
  • Become proficient in Natural Reader software program.

 

Attendance and Communication:

Student employees are expected to be present during their scheduled work hours. If you need to be absent, advance notice to the supervisor is required, except in the case of emergencies (advance notice 24 hours, day of notice 2 hours before shift start time). Repeated tardiness or absences may be grounds for action by your supervisor and can lead to termination if the behavior goes unchanged. Inform your supervisor as soon as possible when you are sick or requesting time off. 

Strong working relations build and thrive off effective communication between the supervisor and employee. At the time of hire, your supervisor(s) will inform you of the ways they will contact you and explain the process of calling out when sick.

Monday-Friday: 9:00am-5:00pm
