Montserrat Students Gaining Professional Skills Across Recent Internships
An education at Montserrat College of Art extends beyond classroom studios and into professional environments. Through the internships completed during the Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 semesters, our students have applied their skills globally and locally, building professional networks and adapting to diverse creative fields.
Animation & Digital Media Production
- Dom ’26 (Graphic Design) interned at BevCam during Summer 2025. Their duties included designing YouTube thumbnails, social media banners, and webpage interfaces, as well as recording events. Dom noted that the community-driven environment provided critical hands-on problem-solving experience.
- Anneliese ’26 (Animation) spent Summer 2025 at Peabody TV creating 2D animated logos. The experience helped prepare her for independent production management, freelance communication, and commercial workflows.
- August ’27, (Animation) assisted at Dirk Tiede Studio during Spring and Fall 2025. They worked on adapting graphic novels into a 3D animated short film using Blender, gaining experience in walk cycles, layouts, asset organization, and character production pipelines.
- Lyss ’26 (Animation) completed an internship at Big Sky Studios spanning Fall 2024 through Summer 2025. Their responsibilities focused on constructing silicone stop-motion puppets and assisting with studio set dressing.
- Madi ’27 (Animation) served as an Animation and Design Intern at BevCam in Spring 2026. Madi recorded promotional videos, developed marketing flyers, and assisted community volunteers, refining post-production skills in After Effects and learning audience engagement strategies.
Graphic Design & Illustration
- Anya ’26 (Graphic Design) interned with the YMCA of the North Shore during Summer 2025. Working across design, photography, and social media, Anya analyzed how large non-profit organizations utilize marketing to communicate with local communities.
- Katie ’26 (Graphic Design) traveled to Billund, Denmark, in Fall 2025 to design minifigures, stickers, and brick decorations for LEGO. This experience helped her develop fine-tuned skills in Adobe Illustrator within a corporate creative department.
- Amanda ’26 (Illustration) worked at the Rehoboth Beach Museum in Spring and Summer 2025. Her responsibilities included historical research, property cataloging, guest reception, and public lecturing. Amanda shared that the role reinforced her professional confidence and public communication skills.
- Bridget ’27 (Illustration) managed photography and social media for Jewelry Whisperer in Summer 2025, gaining initial experience navigating professional job placement interviews.
- Alicia ’26 (Illustration) completed a remote internship in Fall 2025 focused on illustrating a 32-page children’s book. The project provided her with essential practical knowledge regarding copyright protection, contracts, and freelance artist compensation.
- Emily ’26 (Illustration) interned at Paper Asylum during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. Her tasks included social media production, backroom organization, and book value evaluation. Emily emphasized how the position highlighted the necessity of a post-graduation creative community.
Fine Arts: Sculpture, Painting, & Printmaking
- Rin ’27 (Sculpture) worked with Northeast Arc – Caning Company in Summer 2025. Rin managed client communications, trained high school interns, organized jewelry production, and completed woodwork restorations. The internship solidified a long-term professional interest in vintage object restoration.
- Shayna ’26 (Sculpture) interned at the Green Foundry in Eliot, Maine, during Summer 2025. Her duties involved the bronze casting process, including wax cleanup, shell production, burnout, casting, and chasing, which built practical mold-making experience.
- Jake ’27 (Painting) assisted at the North Shore Glass School in Fall 2025. Jake managed customer service, completed studio maintenance, and assisted instructors. He learned fused and stained glass techniques from conception to finish while gaining experience presenting gallery art to prospective buyers.
- Mercury ’27 (Painting) worked at Studio 13 Tattoo Salem during Winter 2024 and Fall 2025. Handling reception, client services, and advertising, Mercury established industry connections and learned stencil transfer and medical-grade sanitization protocols.
- Julius ’26 (Printmaking) served as a costume intern and wardrobe supervisor at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater during Summer 2025, focusing heavily on workplace communication and professional conflict resolution.
Games, Toys, & Play
- Evelyn ’26 (Games, Toys, & Play) completed an internship at The Castle Beverly from Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, creating commercial graphic designs for promotional signs, informational posters, and social media networks.
- Sam ’26 (Games, Toys, & Play) focused on commercial fabrication at Big Sky Studio during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, gaining specialized experience utilizing non-traditional materials to construct miniatures.
- Shay ’26 (Games, Toys, & Play) interned at Big Sky Studio during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. Her duties included prop fabrication, 3D modeling for sets, and stop-motion animation. Shay also developed instructional communication skills by building educational presentation decks.
Narrative, Photography, & Video
- Melana ’26 (Writing & Visual Narrative) worked as a Curatorial Assistant at the Vincent House for the Vineyard Preservation Trust in Summer 2025. Melana managed daily museum operations, completed transactions, and balanced multi-step graphic design and illustration assignments under strict seasonal deadlines.
- Echo ’26 (Writing & Visual Narrative) designed and constructed physical artistic elements for The Cabot Theater‘s Polar Express Event in Fall 2025, which provided direct experience working within a client’s specific creative vision.
- Markanthony ’26 (Photo, Video, & Film) served as an Audio-Video Technician for KVL Audio Video Services Boston in Summer 2025. Working at regional corporate venues, he set up, operated, and dismantled heavy gear, gaining practical experience in on-site technical troubleshooting.
- Eliot ’26 (Photo, Video, & Film) completed a production assistant internship with David Shopper in Boston/Ipswich during Summer 2025, focusing on industry behavioral standards and professional workplace conduct.
- Christina ’26 (Painting) interned at the Wenham Museum during Spring 2026. She generated marketing content, documented museum programming, and coordinated outreach with digital partners. Christina learned how to evaluate social media trends and calculate institutional engagement metrics.
