Alum Howard Kline (’77) Celebrates 50 Years in the Arts

Published: March 31, 2021

Award winning and nationally recognized artist Howard Kline, a Lynn native, is celebrating his successful 50 year art career on Sunday April 18, 2021 from 11am-5pm at his new home and studio in Tucson, Arizona.

After graduation from Montserrat College of Art, Howard learned how to turn his life experiences into ideas for his paintings. Howard has played drums in jazz and rock bands, worked as a lobsterman in Swampscott, and grappled with contemporary Jewish themes in modern art. All of these steps in and aspects of his life, along with his fascination with bodily form, have influenced the arc of his creative work. During his time in New England, Howard was a member of the Rockport Art Association, North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, and the Copley Society in Boston. While at Montserrat, Howard began painting abstractly only to abandon the style for more representational images. After moving to Cambria, California about 20 years ago, he revisited the theme and discovered a renewed interest and committed to work solely with shape, color and form.

Howard says, “After 45 years owning my own retail art galleries from New England to California I wanted to spend more time in my studio without distraction so I packed up my wares and my life and moved to sunny Tucson, Arizona where there are 350 days of glorious sunshine, friendly people, and a vibrant art scene.”

Howard’s work can be seen and purchased at this very special event at his studio in Tucson located at 2826 E.Calle Glorietta and also online at his website howardkline.com. Purchases can be made at his website or by calling 520-344-7885 for original watercolors and prints.

Howard also welcomes wholesale inquiries about his work for originals and prints by galleries, home décor shops and designers.
