Transfer Applicants

Montserrat College of Art welcomes the unique range of experience that transfer students bring to our community. At your previous college or university, you worked hard to earn your credits and we want to make as many of those credits as transferrable towards a Montserrat BFA degree as possible. If you are applying as a transfer student, please submit the same application materials as a first-time student, plus your official college/university transcripts. To get started, go to the Common App.

Credit Placement

You may transfer studio and liberal arts credits for courses in which the content parallels Montserrat’s own program of study. Only courses carrying a grade of “C” or above from other accredited colleges or universities are eligible for transfer. A maximum of 30 studio art credits and 30 liberal arts credits may be transferred. Montserrat reserves the right to decline credit for coursework that is more than ten years old. To understand how many credits you might be able to transfer, please reach out to admissions@montserrat.edu.

The review of transfer credits for studio coursework requires you to submit a portfolio including examples that demonstrate the accomplishment of college-level coursework. To avoid confusion when transferring credits, it is advised that you also submit detailed course descriptions to clarify course content.

Transfer Scholarships

Montserrat has merit-based scholarships available for transfer students. Admitted students are considered for merit scholarships based on the strengths of their previous college GPA and the submitted portfolio for admission. The scholarships are renewable each year of enrollment provided the student remains in good academic standing.

All transfer applicants must be in good standing with all previous colleges and universities attended in order to be considered for admission to Montserrat.

Transfer from a Community College

Montserrat College of Art has several articulation agreements (listed below) with community colleges that guarantee the acceptance of students who earned an Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science from those institutions. Courses at these institutions have been carefully vetted for preparedness and relevance for a smooth transition into the rigors of a BFA program. Montserrat College of Art requires that 50% of the coursework is completed in residence; a minimum total of 120 credits must be completed to earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
