Claudia Valenti is a multidisciplinary artist and educator. Her paintings, drawings, prints, ceramic sculpture, and book works employ magical realism and folkloric imagery to explore memory, loss, comfort, and identity. Valenti received her BFA in Painting + Drawing from Montserrat College of Art (2016) and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US Northeast and internationally, and she received grants to fund her work in visual art and research from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Fine Arts Venture Fund, the San Juan Islands Preservation Trust. Most recently, she was awarded a residency prize from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to fund a residency in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, Japan, where she studied the semiotic use of animals in Japanese art and architecture.
As Student Academic Advisor, Valenti offers academic advising and support to all incoming students and leads the Academic Advising Office. As Program Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Arts department, Valenti teaches and supports students who explore conceptual and material engagements through a wide range of practices, processes, and contexts. As Adjunct Faculty, Valenti teaches in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Printmaking departments at Montserrat and specializes in painting, drawing, printmaking, interdisciplinarity, conceptual development, and narrative image-making.
