What is Federal Work-Study (FWS)?
Federal Work-Study (FSW) is a need-based, federally funded program administered by Montserrat College of Art. A student’s eligibility is determined through the Student Financial Services office with help from documents like the FAFSA. It is designed to promote access to employment and help students meet their educational expenses.
However, Federal Work-Study is not a traditional financial aid “grant,” and earnings are not directly applied to tuition. Instead, students are personally paid for hours worked in an eligible Work-Study position, as the program is intended for students to use their Work-Study earnings to pay for education-related expenses, like tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, and necessary travel expenses. Ultimately the pay from a Work-Study position is the student’s responsibility once earned.
There may be certain on-campus or off-campus jobs that are specifically identified as “Federal Work-Study only”. These positions fulfill mandated requirements of the Federal Work-Study program and are only open to those who have received Federal Work-Study awards. If you have questions about Federal Work-Study please contact Michelle McGaughey [email protected] or Payroll [email protected].
