Studio Assistant – Spring 2025

Status: Hours per week: 5 during the semester, 10–20 during the summer (potential); Expected Duration of Job: academic year

Salary range: $15/hr

Job Summary: Position is a studio assistant with the current Artist-Educator Mentorship Resident This position is one that will be highly involved with the artist’s studio process, giving the student employee a snapshot of what it could be like to be a studio assistant. Knowledge of PFV work areas (digital+analog) is a plus. Knowledge of Adobe programs is essential. Recommendation from Joe Saunders is required.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Cataloguing, organizing, and archiving film negatives
  • Scanning film negatives
  • Editing digital scans
  • Organizing digital collections
  • Printing contact sheets

Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to work independently and on a deadline
  • Ability to collaborate with others on various projects and ideas
  • Takes ownership of work duties and responsibilities, and ensures they are completed accurately and on time
  • Students will build confidence in the skills and experiences related to their monitored work environment
  • Experience in collaborating with an artist

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Working conditions include being in both a studio and mobile environment. The student employee should have the manual dexterity to use computers and standard office equipment and the strength to lift and carry video equipment, supplies, and other materials up to 35lbs. They should also have the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Good communication with the artist is also required.
