Sculpture Concentration Float Monitor – Fall 2025

Status: Days needed each week: Schedule is dependent on student workers availability (Usually Monday- Friday 6:30-9:30 pm, Sunday 3:00-8:00 pm) Total estimated hours per week: Usually between 3-6 hours a week, depending on student’s availability Expected Duration of Job: FA 2025

Salary range: $15.00 /hr

Provides technical support and assistance to Sculpture Studio Technician and faculty members of the Sculpture and Foundation Departments.

Summary of Job: Sculpture Concentration Float Monitor: (Sculpture concentrator preferred) This position does not have a consistent weekly schedule. The candidate for this position ideally would need to have a very flexible schedule, as they will be on-call weekly and will need to be available with short notice to fill in shifts when a sculpture monitor is not able to make their shift. You will need to have a quick response time when contacted to cover a shift.

 Monitoring fellow students working in wood, metal, and sculpture spaces. The monitor would open and close the shop, enforce a safe work environment throughout the facilities, maintain work areas, and work on small tasks assigned by the technician. Monitors are required to work in pairs. Monitors will assist students as they work to complete assignments from foundations and 3D Sculpture courses. Work with the supervisor to oversee all safety regulations including storage of equipment, maintaining safety equipment, wears and enforces proper PPE and overall compliance with safety regulations from EPA and OSHA.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: 

 Work in a studio setting among hazardous materials; loud work environment, the ability to multitask, lift various objects, and clean equipment and studio space.   

Experience Required:

  •  Familiarity with the Sculpture Studio environment. 
  • Good organizational and effective communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently on projects as assigned.
  • Candidates must have completed Wood Fabrication and Metal Fabrication courses. (Or have proven skills to the technician/manager) 
  • Candidates should be able to work in loud environments and communicate effectively with other students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Candidates should have the ability to multitask, lift various objects, be organized, and dependable.

  •  Work independently on tasks and assignments in an efficient manner while monitoring the use of the studio and its equipment. Collaborate with co-workers and supervisors to maintain safety regulations.

  • Set appropriate goals and priorities through recording daily equipment maintenance.
  • Work within appropriate authority and decision-making channels.
  • Support student projects through recommendations of appropriate tool use and materials.

  • Understand the full job responsibilities while maintaining all safety compliance regulations from EPA and OSHA. 
  • Provide recommendations for 3D fabrication models.
  • Proficient in equipment maintenance and care.
  • Certified to use advanced machinery and equipment.
  • Proficient working in an industrial setting using multiple machines, tools and equipment for the production of artwork in the following fabrication studios: Wood, Stone, Metal, Ceramics, Fibers, Mold design operations.
  • Enforce policies and guidelines consistently and with efficiency. Proficient in providing preventative safe use reminders, wears and enforces correct PPE when applicable. Understands all protocols for injuries that occur in the studio.
