Literacy Tutor at Pathways – FWS only, Spring 2025

Summary Statement: Hosting reading activities and read-alouds for students 2.9–5 years old at Pathways.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Choose books as part of pre-work for read-alouds in the classroom
  • Run read-alouds for students ages 2.9–5 during school hours (7:30am–1pm daily)
  • Use Visual Thinking Strategies to engage students (What’s going on in this picture? What makes you say that? What more can we find?)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to work independently and on a deadline
  • Ability to collaborate with others on various ideas and projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Takes ownership of work duties and responsibilities, ensures they are completed accurately and on time.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Candidates should be comfortable walking into a warm and enthusiastic environment where students are still learning about personal boundaries. This role requires interaction with a diverse population of children 2.9–5 years of age in one classroom. It is common for students to express excitement physically, such as running up for hugs. While they are learning about physical boundaries, candidates should be prepared for these spontaneous moments as part of the daily work environment.  

Number of Positions: At least 1, multiple positions have the potential to be made available based on the quality of the pool of applicants.

Federal Work-Study is a need-based, federally funded program administered by Montserrat College of Art. A student’s eligibility is determined through the Student Financial Services office with the help of documents like the FAFSA. As such, this role is intended to support students who have been awarded FWS funding as part of their financial aid package. Students are not allowed to work during their class time even if the class is cancelled, is let out early, or starts late. 

Students must provide proof of a current physical (within the last year) on file OR prove that there is one scheduled for the coming year,  and students must provide proof of an MMR vaccine.

Records of physicals and vaccination are frequently found by going on to your doctor’s portal or calling your doctor’s office.
