Salary range: $55,000-$65,000 plus benefits. Final salary determination is based on rank. Rank:Assistant Professor to Professor (based on experience)

Foundation Coordinator Full Time Faculty Position Description

Montserrat College of Art invites applications for a full-time position to serve as the Program Coordinator for the first-year Foundation program. The Foundation program offers students a rigorous set of studio and liberal arts courses that provide an immersive introduction to creative practices in art and design both within and outside the studio. The Foundations Coordinator will support community collaboration and expose students to contemporary art worlds through experiential learning in the form of field trips, studio and museum visits, artists talks and community partnerships. The innovative curriculum draws connections across all forms of media, technologies and principles. Montserrat’s first-year program is collaboratively delivered with faculty represented from each of the concentrations. Many courses are team taught, integrating an interdisciplinary model of research, writing and critical thinking alongside art and design projects.

Position Responsibilities

The Foundation Program Coordinator oversees the delivery of the program objectives and works closely with college faculty in each of the concentrations to staff and teach Foundation courses. The successful candidate will lead a team of faculty to deliver a student-centered, experiential, hands-on program that is interdisciplinary by design.

This position works closely with the Academic First Year Student Advisor to help students with the transition to the college academic program. The Foundation Program Coordinator must be committed to the education of all first-year students and work collaboratively with all Program Coordinators to develop and implement innovative programming that recognizes, supports and organizes multiple conditions and media for the exploration, expression and communication of ideas.

This position will require the successful candidate to teach 4 courses within the Foundation program per academic year and two additional courses outside of the first-year programming, (three courses per semester, 18 credits per academic year).

The college requires all faculty to contribute to a variety of college areas that include program management, student advising, institutional and program committee service.

All faculty are expected to maintain an active professional practice as an artist, designer, and/or researcher that contributes to the educational mission of the college and its programming.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • MFA, MA or other terminal degree in any of our degree concentrations or related field.
  • Minimum three years of full-time teaching experience at the college level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Teaching experience and philosophy that diversifies the views of all art and design practice.
  • Experience that demonstrates a significant engagement with curriculum design, implementation and delivery that embraces innovative and interdisciplinary practices and pedagogy.
  • Administrative experience that includes the supervision of faculty, budget development and accountability.
  • Artist or designer with an active professional creative and research practice.
  • Candidates must be able to teach at all levels in the undergraduate program and be proficient in the formal, perceptual, theoretical, and historical foundations of contemporary visual art and design practice.
  • Expertise in the tools and technologies that enable distance teaching and learning, and experience with a variety of software applications required in the production of instructional material.
  • Experience advising students.
  • Promise or proven ability to enrich the aims of diversity, equity and justice of the college and all its constituents.
