FACULTY MEMBER & ALUMNA CORINNE RIED WINS 2022 CHESLEY AWARD
Corinne Reid (’11) has recently won this year’s Chesley Award for Hardcover Book Illustration. The Chesley Awards are given each year by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists to recognize “individual works and achievements in a given year.” The awards were originally established in 1985 to recognize artistic works outside the purview of the Hugo Awards.
Reid winning design is for Encounters with the Imaginary Vol. 3, a collection of fantasy illustrations by over 40 artists. Encounters was edited by Jeszika Le Vye and Kira Night and published through Boneshaker Press. Reid’s design beat out some stuff competition, including Tommy Arnold’s work on novelist Tamsyn Muir’s highly-popular Harrow the Ninth.
This is just another entry in the catalogue of Reid’s successes. In 2020 she was hired to illustrate Time Magazine’s article “The 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time.”
During her senior year at Montserrat, Reid traveled to NYC to accept the Society of Illustrators National Student Award. She was accompanied by Dean Laura Tonelli and then-President Steve Immerman. Since then, Reid has had her work published in American Illustration, SPECTRUM, and Creative Quarterly. Further she’s done work for high profile clients like the Wall Street Journal, Field & Stream, Penguin Random House, and Little, Brown, and Company. She is now a full-time faculty member at Montserrat.
