Printmaking

Printmaking at Montserrat is a powerhouse of visual communication. It is an interdisciplinary field where artists analyze, transform, and replicate ideas using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

The Toolkit: Traditional & Digital

Our curriculum allows you to master time-honored techniques while integrating them with 21st-century tools. You will explore a diverse range of processes to find the perfect texture and technique for your vision:

  • Classic Processes: Silkscreen, Etching, Relief-printing, Monoprinting, and Lithography.
  • Expanded Media: Book Arts and Letterpress.
  • Modern Integration: Supplement traditional image-making with digital and photographic technology.

Beyond the Paper

We encourage our students to push the boundaries of what a “print” can be. Our program explores how printmaking interacts with:

  • Installation & Sculpture: Creating 3D environments from printed multiples.
  • Book Arts: Crafting tactile, narrative experiences.
  • Multimedia: Incorporating video and design into the printmaking process.

Career Paths in Print

A Printmaking degree builds a unique set of analytical and technical skills. Our graduates thrive as:

  • Book Artists & Gallery Professionals in museums and private collections.
  • Professional Printers & Editioners for commercial and fine art studios.
  • Designers & Illustrators with a focus on tactile and analog aesthetics.
  • Educators in schools, community centers, and universities.
