Games, Toys, and Play

Do you collect plushies and figurines? Do you spend your weekends mastering tabletop games or getting lost in virtual worlds? At Montserrat, you can turn your passion for play into a professional career.

Our Games, Toys, & Play concentration is a unique, hands-on program that explores the intersection of entertainment, design, and physical fabrication.

What You’ll Design

In this program, you won’t just play—you’ll build. Students learn to create:

  • Digital Experiences: Video games, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR).
  • Physical Media: Tabletop and card games, custom plushies, toys, and figurines.
  • Immersive Props: Costumes, puppets, and character-driven artifacts.

The Science of Fun

Beyond making “things,” you will dive deep into the theory and business of the industry:

  • Prototyping & Fabrication: Move from digital concepts to physical, packaged products.
  • Play Theory: Understand the “why” behind gameplay and sensory engagement.
  • Impactful Design: Explore how play is used for education, community building, and sensory therapy.
  • Marketing & Packaging: Learn how to brand and position your creations for the global market.

Turn Your Hobby Into a Career

Whether you want to work for a major toy manufacturer, an indie game studio, or launch your own line of designer collectibles, this program provides the technical skills and industry insight to get you there.
