“I strive to prepare my students for a career in design by developing a well-rounded learning experience. My teaching strategy includes the cultivation of ideation and solution creating techniques, conceptual thought processes, eloquent presentation and networking skills, collaboration, and exposure to professional environments.”Bernadette Carr is the Creative Director/Principal of BCarr Design. A Massachusetts native, Bernadette studied Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and Communications Design at Pratt Institute. She has been designing and art directing publications, integrated media/marketing campaigns, and identity systems since 1991. Bernadette’s first professional experience experimenting with typography and imagery was as a design intern with Whittle Communications. Her exposure to this company’s groundbreaking approach to integrated marketing inspired Bernadette to further explore where design, imagery, media, and strategy meet. In 1991, Bernadette began working for the Phoenix Media/Communications Group. During her time with the Phoenix, she held several design leadership roles. In 1995, she became Art Director, Marketing for the New York Times Magazine Group in New York City. Bernadette continued her design career in New York. She was Design Director, Marketing for Reader’s Digest, and an adjunct faculty member of Pratt Institute’s Graduate Communications Design program. In 2005, Bernadette returned to Boston and was Global Creative Director, Marketing for NERA Economic Consulting, a subsidiary of MarshMcLennan. Her work has been recognized by CommArts, AIGA, Ad Council, and Reich Paper. Clients include: Applied Materials, MMC, Constellation Energy, National Science Foundation, BatesWhite, Meredith Corporation, Dempson UK Education: B.F.A, Illustration, Rhode Island School of Design; M.S., Communications Design, Pratt Institute
