“While students instinctively search for individuality in their own aesthetic, a strong illustration professor will be preparing them to perceive their art as a visual language.”
David holds a BFA in Illustration from Montserrat College of Art where he studied illustration, various painting media and design. He later received an MFA in Illustration from Western Connecticut State University. In his time at WCSU he focused on furthering his knowledge of sequential art. Subsequently, he developed two children’s books proposals, created comic book illustrations for Terminal Press and Alterna Comics and is currently writing and illustrating his first graphic novel titled Trapper.
As a professional illustrator, David has had many accomplishments. He has created pieces for Purina, San Pellegrino Waters, Hasbro, ESPN, Dove, Dole, Mead Five Star, Sam Adams Brewing Co., EMCParadigm Publishing, The New Hampshire Telegraph and The New Haven Advocate. David has also received two first place New Hampshire Press Association awards for best editorial illustration for his work in The New Hampshire Telegraph and a W3 Award presented for excellence in creative content for San Pellegrino Water’s web site, The Sparkling Life. Along with producing art, David has a diverse history of teaching it. Colleges and art organizations that have recognized his talents are Frostberg State University in MD, The New Art Center in Newton, MA, The Tower School Arts Program in Marblehead MA, Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, CT and Guilford Art Center in Guildford, CT and Kenté Cultural Center in New London, CT. At Kenté, David acted as Director of an innovative afterschool program titled “Business of Art.” This program was designed to build self-esteem among urban high school students by helping them set up exhibitions to sell their art work in the Kenté gallery. David not only gave them guidance, but also successfully advocated scholarships for students—creating opportunities for personal growth as artists that they may not have had otherwise. David continues to build a career as an illustrator, teacher and fine artist—drawing inspiration from the Old Masters of the Renaissance, comic books, Samurai films and pop culture. His professional body of work displays a genuine knowledge of technique and love of storytelling. Combining a beautiful craftsmanship of line and color, he continues to seek out and embrace new challenges.
