“As both painter and animator, I try to feel out what each student’s strengths are, help them showcase those strengths, and provide them with working methods that will expand those strengths and make the animation process both effective and efficient.”
Amy MacDonald is an instructor on the Animation and Interactive Media faculty. Her artistic practice combines painting, drawing, animation, and music. During her nine years at Soup2Nuts Animation Studio, she created characters, backgrounds and storyboards for TV and web animated series. Her animation credits include Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist (Comedy Central), The Cosby Show (CBS), The Dick & Paula Celebrity Special (UPN and FX), O’Grady High (Noggin), Hey Monie (Oxygen and BET), Home Movies (Cartoon Network), Word Girl (PBS) and The Lewis Lectures (Annecy Film Festival). She has created huge animations for the Boston Convention Center’s 80-foot-tall LED marquee, tiny character animations for websites, a short film called Où est Fleuri Rose? and, most recently, animated GIFs created from large drawings. She lives and works in Boston’s Fort Point Arts Community. Her practice remains firmly rooted in drawing and painting, and she encourages students to embrace an interdisciplinary practice as a way of broadening their experiences and becoming familiar with as many practices as possible.
