Costume Fabrication Internship – LAIKA

General Summary
TheCostume Fabrication Intern will gain valuable “hands on” production experience and training by working in collaboration with our skilled professionals. Interns are supported and challenged as they benefit from renowned stop motion animation expertise. Specifically, the Costume Fabrication Intern will assist with the creation of puppet costumes for stop motion animation.
Job Functions
- Follow reference images, designs, construction notes, and verbal instructions during fabrication of costumes and costume elements.
- Assist with patterning garments using draping, flat pattern manipulation techniques, and a variety of costume construction techniques such as extremely fine hand sewing, cutting, fusing, gluing, embroidery, etc.
- Assist with creating support structures to go under garments that enhance the desired puppet movement and performance including hard elements such as wires and rigid forms, as well as soft elements such as foam and fabric linings.
- Help document detailed, concise, and easy to follow instructions for all patterns and processes used in costume fabrication.
- Assist with embellishing fabrics by using a range of techniques while maintaining fabric performance.
- Assist in the general upkeep of the workshop.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in college or graduated within the last 12 months, with a focus in Fine Arts, Film, or other relevant area of study.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of fabric properties, pattern cutting, draping, and sewing techniques.
- Basic knowledge of dyeing and color mixing.
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Strong organization, collaboration, and communication skills.

Salary
$20.00/hour set rate, non-negotiable.
