Job Overview

The Communications Manager executes and oversees a multi-channel communications plan for the Boston Public Art Triennial (The Triennial) and acts as the organization’s brand expert, ensuring both visual adherence and a compelling written voice that is bold, sharp and open, across all media and platforms. This person will have excellent project management skills, a collaborative, professional and customer-service approach. The Communications Manager will foster trust and a reputation for problem-solving to all other departments. Strong interest and/or experience in contemporary arts and culture and nonprofits is preferred.

The Communications Manager works under the supervision of the Director of Partnership + Engagement and the Brand Advisor. They manage a Communications Associate and collaborate with an external creative director and junior designer. Additionally they serve as liaison between the organization to two contracted PR teams (one local and one national/international). As a hub of collaboration, they interface with all staff primarily the Production/Curatorial, Development, and Partnership + Engagement departments.

Roughly 60% of their responsibilities fall in project and people management across all platforms, 20% in support of PR, 20% in strategic input and written communications.

Drive audiences to engage with The Triennial by visiting projects, attending events, using the website, donating, and contributing ideas towards building a public art city.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute an annual communications plan with quarterly goals that tie to the Triennial’s Strategic Plan with support from Director of Partnerships + Engagement and Brand Advisor.

  • Provides project management and full marketing and communications support on various projects including print & digital collateral, signage, promotional materials and merchandise

  • Oversee design and production of written and visual material for both internal and external purposes and audiences

  • Work with staff and consultants to ensure that all materials maintain the consistent visual and brand identity of The Triennial

  • Oversee the use of Triennial brand and voice across all platforms

  • Develop and execute outward-facing messaging for Triennial 2025 projects, the Public Art Accelerator program, Annual Fundraising Campaigns, all press releases, and event marketing

  • Manage and liaise relationships between PR consultants (local and national/international) and Triennial organization and Triennial Curators

  • Oversee and support Communications Associate whose primary responsibilities include: all digital media communications (eNews, social media, and website) and photography/videography vendor relationships.

  • Manage all print media assets with external designers and vendors

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in communications or marketing

  • A keen understanding of brand management best practices

  • Superb writing skills matched by aesthetic orientation

  • Strongly demonstrated project and people management with vendors, contractors, and interns

  • Expert knowledge of Mailchimp, Hootsuite, and Meta Business Suite, with hands-on experience in social media and email marketing

  • Experience collaborating with a fundraising/development team

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, and Canva

  • Experience in arts and culture organizations, contemporary art, and/or non-profit sectors is strongly preferred.

Hours

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position in The Triennial’s open floor-plan office with the option for some remote work. Weekend and evening work may be required around programming and event support.


Compensation

Compensation is $70,000-80,000 with unlimited paid vacation (Responsible Vacation Policy), 14 paid holidays, paid sick time, and healthcare and dental benefits.
