media creators, filmmakers, actors, educators, and visual artists are encouraged apply.

Freedom’s Silhouette by Liz Helfer will invite visitors to consider the fight for freedom through time in
this historic town. The sculpture takes inspiration from the 250th anniversary of the start of the
American Revolution in 2025 and the lives of two 19th century Concord residents – Henry David Thoreau
and Ellen Garrison who continued this fight for independence through the abolitionist cause. The
artwork consists of two 6-foot-long benches facing one another with an acrylic silhouette representing
Ellen Garrison on one bench and Henry David Thoreau on the other. The figures are made of one-way
transparent acrylic that allows viewers from one side to look through and from the other to see
themselves reflected. Viewer may see themselves mirrored in these former residents of Concord or as a
lens through which to see the present.

Proposals – Due May 20, 2024
