Position Description
Montserrat College of Art seeks a part-time, adjunct faculty member to teach an
introductory Illustration I course (3 credits).
Topics covered in the introductory class include concept and narrative image making,
fundamentals in design (composition, value, context, etc.), a brief history of illustration.

Course description: Illustration I provides an introduction to the art of illustration and the
skills required for its successful practice. Through a series of problems and exercises,
students increase their understanding of visual language while developing their ability to
use that language through drawing in the communication of ideas and information. Along
with some exploration of a variety of processes and media, most of the problems are
solved in finished black-and-white sketch form.

Requirements
An MFA and/or professional/studio experience in illustration is required. Three years
higher education experience preferred. Fluency with the Adobe Suite.

Additional Requirements
Position takes place in an educational environment; manual dexterity to use computers is
required.
