Photography Monitor – Fall 2025

Department: Photography, Video, Film

Reports to: Joseph Saunders

Status: Hours needed each week: Mon–Thus 8pm–12am and Sat–Sun 12pm–4pm and 4pm–8pm; Term: Fall Semester 2024, with the possibility of extension through Spring 2025 Semester

Salary range: $15/hr

Summary: Photography Monitors provide access to the Photography Darkroom, film processing area, and photography studio for students currently enrolled in PVF classes. 

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Follow opening and closing procedures and oversee the sign-in and sign-out of all students in Picktime. 
  • Complete proper checklists of nightly monitor duties along with shift-specific duties.
  • Assist students coming to the darkroom or studio who might have issues with aspects of the equipment.
  • Check and maintain chemistry in the darkroom and the film processing area and change when necessary.
  • Check and maintain Studio Photography equipment along with seamless
  • Observe emergency procedures based on events. 
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Must communicate well with the supervisor about issues or anything that arises in space.

  • Ability to work independently 
  • Learn to manage a studio space and equipment
  • Takes ownership of work duties and responsibilities, and ensures they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Students will build confidence in the skills and experiences related to their monitored work environment.
  • Proficiency in Photography and Video Equipment such as Darkroom, Photography Studio, Digital labs, and printers along with Adobe and print software.
  • Diagnose technical problems through minor testing and troubleshooting.

The PVF Studio prioritizes inclusivity and the ideal candidate is committed to making the Studio a safe space for all Candidates MUST be willing to ask questions when they don’t know or understand something. Monitors must feel comfortable enforcing rules and procedures among their peers. 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Working with chemicals such as photography chemistry being able to lift 35lb and handling heavy photography equipment.

Number of Positions: 3–4 open positions Photography, Video, and Film concentrator strongly preferred.

Attendance and Communication:
Student employees are expected to be present during their scheduled work hours. If you need to be absent, advance notice to the supervisor(s) is required, except in the case of emergencies (advance notice 24 hours, day of notice 2 hours before shift start time). Repeated tardiness or absences may be grounds for disciplinary action by your supervisor(s) and can lead to termination if the behavior goes unchanged. Inform your supervisor as soon as possible when you are sick or requesting time off.
