Alumna Marjorie Chisholm Crawford ’82 has an upcoming exhibition of paintings and ink drawings titled Transformations: Abstract Expressions of Spirit and Nature at the Women’s Resource Center in Sarasota, FL. The opening will take place July 12 from 5 – 7 pm. Her show will remain on display from July 12 through September.

340 S Tuttle Ave, Sarasota, FL

Crawford’s artwork explores our connection with the natural and magical worlds through abstracted imagery and color. She paints in multicolored layers, using layering and the scratching through of paint as a metaphor for the life cycles of laying down something new, covering it over, and breaking through or transformation. She juxtaposes abstracted images of trees, windows, suns, leaves, hearts and angels wings.

I have always been interested in that which cannot be readily seen,” explained Crawford. “My hope is that my paintings catch the essence of being, the magic of creation and the splendor and energetic intelligence of the universe. I offer my work as a joyous expression of creation and perhaps as an alternative approach to viewing our world.”

Crawford graduated from Montserrat College of Art in 1982, then relocated to the Sarasota/Bradenton area in 1990 where she assumed the presidency of Universal Art Images. She currently maintains a studio in Bradenton. Crawford has exhibited in solo and group shows in the Boston area and southwest Florida.
