Primarily a painter, Kristine Roan’s work comes out of an engagement with her environment that seeks to see it anew. As in her arranged objects, her current paintings consist of marks like building blocks…that one can imagine being pulled apart and rearranged. Roan embraces the disparities between these two modes of seeing / making. She seeks to create a space where there can be a dialogue between the religiosity of her paintings and the unfixed, playful combines.

Anthony Palocci Jr. paints the objects in the world around him. He builds up the surface of his paintings in layers of different colors, often starting with a warm underpainting. It is through this process of identifying how an object exists in space and in light, that the feeling Palocci is looking for in the work is expressed. Life can be ironic, depressing, or absurd, and it can quickly become fortuitous and exciting. What is consistent is the environment and the things we interact with on a daily basis.
