SUPER: Montserrat’s Art Education Practicum Thesis Exhibition

Art Education Practicum graduates Matt Tanzi ’12 and Elizabeth O’Toole ‘12 showcased the artwork created by students from Beverly’s Hannah Elementary School and Rockport High School. A reception for SUPER was held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Montserrat’s 301 Gallery, 301 Cabot Street. The exhibit will remain on display through Dec. 14. Open to the public Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and by appointment.

Montserrat’s practicum students Tanzi and O’Toole exhibited the artworks produced by students in grades K – 5 as well as grades 9 – 12 during their teaching practicum experience, in the fall semester of 2012.

They have now both completed the NASDTEC approved Art Education Teacher Preparation Program at Montserrat and is recommended for Initial Licensure (Tanzi: 5-12, O’Toole: K-8) in the Visual Arts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Highlights of the exhibition include Rockport students’ self-portraits in the style of Chuck Close and artworks exploring the concept of alter egos. Hannah Elementary School’s student works include monsters and wild things as well as textile patterns and shapes inspired from the storybook Abuela’s Weave.
