Kelly Rose Clarke Attends Getaway House Fellowship

November 19, 2018

Kelly Rose Clarke (2018) recently returned from a brief fellowship which changed the course of her career.

She reports, “The fellowship was with the Getaway House (getaway.house) and involved two nights and two days in their “tiny cabins”, which are very similar to a tiny house. The purpose of the fellowship is to allow artists of all media including musicians, writers, photographers, painters and illustrators, to get away from the loud daily life of our current world. They encourage you to unplug from your phones and computers and plug into nature. There is even a box in the cabins made to “lock up” your phones for the trip.”

She said to apply for the fellowship fill out their form on their website and describe what you plan to do with your time there.

“I received my fellowship acceptance and spent my time here with my partner unwinding from my office job at the time, ” She said, “it was amazingly refreshing and rejuvenating to live in nature for a few days. While the residency is short, I had plenty of time to paint, sketch, and wander in the forest. After completely my residency, I created various paintings based on my stay, which myself and Getaway have full rights to use for promotional material.”

“Since my stay at the getaway, I realized I really needed to get out of my office job and be somewhere I could be inspired, she said. “I am happy to say that after getting the boost I needed, I have re-vamped my online shop which is beginning to get more traffic, accepted a Full-time position as a Graphic Designer at a lovely creative company, and have been taking my own business “K Rose Illustration” even more seriously. Getaway was just what I needed to light the flame again after graduation, and I am so grateful I did.”
