Congratulations Class of 2013
On Friday morning, May 17, 76 Montserrat College of Art seniors switched the side their tassel was hanging on their caps and became alumni of the college at Cabot Street Cinema Theatre. They were awarded Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in painting, sculpture, photography, animation, book arts, illustration, interdisciplinary arts, graphic design and printmaking.
The ceremony was led by Montserrat’s Trustee Chair Lee Dellicker. Internationally known conceptual sculptor Tom Friedman was the commencement speaker and received an honorary doctor of fine arts from the college during the ceremonies. The Class of 2013 selected Prof. Fred Lynch, Chair of the Illustration Department, to serve as the faculty speaker and Ariell Jones ’13 was the student speaker. All three gave incredibly inspirational and moving addresses.

Five students received dean’s highest honors, 22 received dean’s honors.
Faculty Awards:
Assoc. Prof. Caroline Bagenal received the Dorrien Award and the Conelia Award was split by Assoc. Prof. Masako Kamiya and Prof. Martha Buskirk.
Immediately following commencement, students and guests were invited to the Beverly Common, next to the Hardie Building, for an outdoor reception hosted by the Montserrat community. The Montserrat Gallery was open for viewing of the 2013 All Senior Show at the college’s main campus building at 23 Essex Street.
