Alumna Cary Hulbert (’07) Appears in Bronx Museums’ Fifth Aim Biennial
Alumna Cary Hulbert (’07) is appearing in Bronx Calling: The Fifth AIM Biennial. The show includes 68 artists from the Bronx Museum’s AIM Fellowship program. The show “considers the multiple crises of health, grief, the environment, and identity that define our contemporary moment.”
Hulbert received her MFA from Columbia University in 2016, where she currently works as an Adjunct in the Visual Arts department. She is currently based out of Brooklyn. In September of 2020 she started an online gallery with Trinity Lester called Project Gallery V. They aim to break down the arbitrary boundaries between artistic practices and supporting artists in their professional creative careers.
The AIM Fellowship, which Hulbert attended, provides early-career artists guidance and advice as they begin their journey into the art world. The nine-month fellowship features seminars and programs covering topics from finance to law to media management, which aid artists in building sustainable studio practices.
The Fifth AIM Biennial also celebrates the Bronx Museum’s 50th anniversary. The show was co-curated by Ian Cofre (Director, PS 122 Gallery) and Eva Mayhabal Davis (Co-Director, Transmitter). It runs until March 20th, so those in the NYC area are encouraged to reserve a (free) ticket through the Bronx Museum and stop in!
Below, enjoy a brief discussion with Hulbert as she talks through the thought and practice behind her contribution to the show. To see more of Hulbert’s work, follow her on Instagram at @cary_hulbert.
