Bill Plympton: Master Class at Montserrat

Award winning animator Bill Plympton will teach a Master Class Saturday, Dec. 3, 12–2 pm at Montserrat’s Oddfellows classroom, 194 Cabot Street, Room 201, Beverly, MA.

The class will include an in-depth discussion of his career as an independent animator and show some of his classic shorts, music videos, and clips from his new feature, Idiots and Angels. He will be giving a drawing demonstration and discuss how filmmakers can make a living creating short films. All attendees will leave with a free Bill Plympton drawing!

Plympton, joined by director Alexia Anastasio, will also visit the Cape Ann Cinema Saturday, Dec. 3, which will host a screening of their film Adventure’s in Plymptoons at 7 pm. For more information visit Cape Ann Cinema

Plympton is considered the “King of Indie Animation” and is the only person to hand draw an entire animated feature film. In 1987 he was nominated for an Oscar® for his animated short “Your Face.” In 2005, Bill received another Oscar® nomination for his short film “Guard Dog.” “Push Comes to Shove,” another short film, won the prestigious Cannes 1991 Palme d’Or.

Born and raised in Portland, OR, he graduated from Portland State University in Graphic Design. Plympton moved to New York City in 1968 and began his career creating cartoons for publications such as New York Times, National Lampoon, Playboy, and Screw.
