Janice Eaton Updike is an artist residing in Newburyport, MA. Trained as a designer and graduating from Montserrat College of Art, Janice has always been drawn to painting. For the past nineteen years she has been working with pastels, exploring landscapes, still lives and interiors. Walks along the marshes and beaches of the North Shore have inspired her landscapes. In her paintings, Janice is interested in the interplay of light and shadow on color. Her still lives and interiors are studies of natural light transforming objects as it peers inside of them. She chose pastels because of their versatile qualities that produce a range of effects from vibrant solids to translucent subtleties. It is her masterful interpretation of this range that makes Janice’s pieces so luminous. Recent exhibits include The Firehouse Center for the Arts, Newburyport, MA and Stonewall Studios, Kittery, ME. She is represented by Chameleon at 22 Liberty Street in Newburyport, MA.
