Heidi Daub is happy to announce her solo exhibit, Pieces Of Prayer, at the University of Maine Machias, Powers Hall Gallery, August 7 – September 30. The show will feature new and select paintings and poems and is a continuation of her work in Maine that has spanned over 25 years. An opening reception will take place Friday, September 4, 5- 7 pm. Gallery hours are 1-5pm Monday – Friday, with extended hours starting in September.

Pieces Of Prayer takes its title from an ongoing painting series of the same name which was inspired by poems and songs written in relation to her daughter’s study of our indigenous roots, the elements of the earth and the environment that sustains us. The first paintings in this series started by writing excerpts from these songs and poems directly on vellum. As the phrases were written over and over, the words became form, paint and charcoal were added and the images that emerged felt at once ancient and contemporary. Now moving deeper into this theme, in this pivotal time of environmental urgency, the paint is coming forth as marks of her reverence, her openness to the essence of what makes us human; our kinetic energy and physiological make-up that aligns us with all living things.

The opportunity for the UMM exhibit evolved from a poetry/painting collaboration with Leonore Hildebrandt, entitled The Shelter, (ten part poem and ten paintings) presented at the 2013 Belfast Poetry Festival. The project, consisting of a ten part poem (Hildebrandt) paired with ten paintings (Daub) will be part of the exhibit and presented as a slide show/reading at the public reception.

An artist catalog, made possible by a wide net of supporters will be on view in the gallery and available on her website.

UMM is dedicated to environmental liberal arts and is in the heart of a vibrant ecological community. The book arts program, and Stone Island Press, are a state of the art facility made possible by a generous grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.
