Alumni News: Halley Murray in Zine Fest Berlin

October 10, 2013

Alumna Halley Murray ’08 is in her third year organizing the international Zine Fest Berlin, Oct. 26 and 27, at the Schule für Erwachsenenbildung in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Germany.

“Organized by a handful of zine-enthusiasts, the Zine Fest Berlin is back for it’s third year in a row. Focusing on the subversive culture of self-made publications aka ‘zines’, the Zine Fest will provide a platform and meeting place for zine-lovers and small self-publishers across an international crowd. Zines are part of a subculture of Do-It-Yourself, an idea where the relation between production and consumption has shifted. Zines are individual autonomous voices, and the Zine Fest wants to bring them to the public and celebrate how special they are!”

Murray will be there with her Raumschiff Distro, which includes fifteen of her own self-published zines. She founded the festival in 2011 as a response to the lack of zine culture and networks in Berlin. This summer she facilitated various workshops on self-publishing throughout Germany, and has plans to go on tour with her music and distro.
