The FOUNDATION series follows VOWS, a 2014 installation exhibited in Montserrat College of Art’s 301 Gallery.

FOUNDATION reacts to a statement made in Elite Daily (stating that Generation- Y has a poor interpretation of love, which may lead to them giving up on it altogether) and focuses on the basis and cause of our thoughts on love through paintings and sculptures.

Chelsea Stewart grew up in Castleton, NY, and is now living and working in Beverly, MA after graduating and receiving a BFA from Montserrat College of Art in 2014. During her time at Montserrat, Stewart interned at The Arts Center of the Capital Region and Peabody Essex Museum.

Stewart works mainly in paint, though she continues to experiment with mixed media. Her artwork focuses on the basis and cause of our thoughts on love and relationships, and is heavily influenced by friends, loved ones, and strangers alike. FOUNDATION is Stewart’s first solo exhibit.
