Alumni Brendan MacAllister and Jake Ursino Hold Joint Exhibition

February 27, 2020

Montserrat alumni Brendan MacAllister (’12) and Jake Ursino (’13) are exhibiting new work at Mingo Gallery & Framing in Beverly! In the survey of new works, entitled DUCK DUCK GOOSE, the two friends use their illustration stills to navigate artistically the dark, absurd, and often humorous facets of human existence.

Brendan’s paintings begin as digital collages constructed from a box of postcards dating from as far back as the 1960’s. After scanning the postcards and building the initial images, Brendan projects them onto a canvas in order to paint them. The resulting work is a mashup of equal parts kitsch, nostalgia, and mesmerizing weirdness.

Jake’s work stems from napkin drawings made while working in the service industry. It depicts the isolating, absurd, and often stupefying reality of being human. Using macabre and surrealistic energy, Jake stretches reality until his depictions become comedy.

The two consider DUCK DUCK GOOSE to be an honest reflection of their personalities and friendship.

The reception for DUCK DUCK GOOSE will be on Saturday, February 19th from 6 – 9. Those interested can RSVP at their Facebook event.
