Parents are often concerned that their children's art college experience won't be as rigorous or as enriching as the traditional university experience. And indeed, art college can take a student on a journey unlike any other. However, Montserrat College of Art prides itself on the education it delivers. The very fact that we are a small art college allows us to treat our students as whole artists – individuals with tremendous talent and potential. Our goal is to help each of them learn the professional skills and cultivate the relationships that will travel with them throughout their careers.
In addition to academics, Montserrat College of Art offers a thorough and well-rounded art college experience, with numerous programs that give our students opportunities to demonstrate not only their talents, but also their growth as people. Our gifted, supportive faculty of professional artists and teachers mentor students throughout their time here, encouraging them to always be their best.
Montserrat College of Art believes that learning can take place both inside and outside the classroom, so we offer a variety of programs unique to our institution. In addition to gallery trips to Boston and New York City, arts internships and apprenticeships, and studio classes, we offer classes in time management, diversity, and current issues.
Montserrat College of Art also recognizes that fun and relaxation are an important part of the learning process. With that in mind, we host regular extramural activities such as acoustic throwdowns, movie nights, and video game tournaments.
Students at Montserrat College of Art are afforded opportunities that few young visual artists will have access to on their own. For example, our student-run gallery, the Bear Gallery, provides not only a pleasant diversion for our students (and the larger community), but also an opportunity for students to organize and operate a professional art gallery.
Our beautiful art college residence buildings each have their own look and feel, but all our residence halls feature apartment-style layouts. Students have private or shared bedrooms in addition to living rooms and full kitchens. Montserrat College of Art also offers an off campus dining plan through the Off Campus Dining Network, which allows students to buy food at grocery stores and local eateries.
If you have any questions about any of our programs, from when your student is a freshman up to their graduation, please send me an e-mail at barbara.fienman@montserrat.edu. We’re here to make their experience the best it can be.
