Health and Safety at Montserrat College of Art

Students and parents of students at our Massachusetts art college should be aware that we do everything within our power to maintain the health and safety of our campus. To achieve this, Montserrat College of Art makes local and national health and safety resources available to our students through our web site and in our offices. We do everything we can to ensure that students with questions about drug and alcohol use, physical and emotional abuse, rape and sexual assault, and general physical, mental, and emotional wellness can find the answers they need. Counseling is available right on our Massachusetts art college campus from a professional psychologist.

Pandemic Flu Preparedness

Federal, state, and local governmental agencies across the country are planning on how to deal with the affects of a possible pandemic outbreak of avian flu. Margaret Spellings, Secretary of Education, requested that all colleges develop a response plan in case we do face a pandemic flu outbreak. The President of the college has identified the Dean of Students as the administrator in charge of organizing a task force that will develop a plan for responding to a pandemic flu, which will be integrated with our existing emergency response plan. Membership in this group will include members of the cabinet, staff, and faculty.

There is currently some uncertainty about whether or not the virus that causes bird flu will mutate into a form that could pass between humans, however, there is broad agreement that organizations should have preparedness plans in place to deal with it if it does.

This section of the web-site will be updated periodically to keep the Montserrat College of Art community updated on planning in the event of an outbreak of pandemic influenza. Additionally, this section of the web site has been created to contain information on avian flue and pandemic preparedness. We will update this site as new information becomes available.
