WE137 Encaustic Intensive Workshop 2 sessions
Fall class begin 9/21 - 11/16 Saturday & Sunday, 9 - 5 pm

Encaustic, meaning, "to burn in" in Greek, dates back to the 5th Century BC.  Used as a contemporary medium it is a versatile method of painting with a beeswax based paint kept molten on a heated palette.  Participants will learn to prepare supports, mix colors, apply wax, fuse, etch, layer, combine collage, transfer Xerox images and incorporate found object.  Day 1 - Discussion of studio set up and safety, supports, encaustic history and contemporary use.  Demonstrations: making encaustic medium, was application, fusing, color mixing, masking, scraping, etching a line, pigment sticks and slide or LCD presentation.  Day 2 - Demonstrations in building a support, graphite & Xerox  transfers, collage & embedding, incorporation found objects, impasto modeling wax and slide or LCD presentation.  Open to all. Work shop Supply Fee: $65.00 (encaustic assortment kit, medium, pigment sticks and supports).  Supply list on website.

WK060 Introduction to Animation 2 sessions

This workshop will give you the basis knowledge to create animation in Blender.  Blender is a fully integrated creation suite, offering a broad range of essential tools for the creations of 3D content, including modeling, uv-mapping, texturing, rigging, skinning, animation, particle and other simulation, scripting, rendering, compositing, post-production, and game creation. Blender is one of the most popular open source 3D graphics application in the world.  Open to all.

WK110 Drawing on the Wild Side of the Brain 2 sessions
Fall class being 9/21 - 11/16 Saturdays, 10 - 3 pm

Experience two fun days of large scale drawing and painting with Jim Falck. This workshop encourages you to break out of minimal thinking and explore beyond your ordinary patterns of expression. Students respond with line, shape, color, and texture to create abstract and representational images in a playful environment of colorful still life objects, upbeat music, and a model (2^nd Sat). Surprise, whimsy, happy accident, freedom and beauty happen when you let yourself draw from the “wild” side of your brain! Supplies are included; students are welcome to bring their favorite materials if they choose. Open to all!

WK174 Introduction to Letterpress 2 sessions

  Learn the fundamentals of hand typesetting and letterpress printing. This course consist of lecture, demonstrations and studio time in Montserrat's letterpress shop. The first project will be a group broadside to help you familiarize yourselves with the basic tools and concepts of letterpress printing.  The second project will be a greeting or postcard.  You will create cards using type, printer's cuts and concepts of your choosing and whim. The number of cards in the edition will correspond with the number of students in the class.  This way everyone will have an example of the other students' work.  Of course you're encouraged to make more for yourselves! Open to all.

WK184 Creating with watercolor 1 sessions
Fall class begin 9/21- 11/16 Saturdays , 10:00 - 3:00 pm

Robin will teach assorted watercolor techniques using a liberal, free flowing approach to the practice of painting, ranging from washes, glazing, ruffling, and spatters. These techniques will then combine with natural instincts, leading to individual self reflective styles. Open to all levels.  Good for beginners. If weather permits we can do some painting outdoors.

Come and learn how to make cool jewelry with a few simple tools and wire.  In this workshop we choose from basic jump rings, earring hooks, clasps and twisted designs with beads for necklace pendants, bracelets, earrings and even rings.  No experience necessary. Some tools to share are provided. See supply list on web site.

WK385 Mural Painting 8 sessions

This course will cover materials and techniques for the design, transfer, and painting of indoor and outdoor murals.  During the course students will design and paint a mural.  Additional uses of murals will be covered from interior decoration to murals painted for public. WK388 Adobe Camera Raw Workflow 2 sessions

This course is designed to introduce you to the principles of the Abode Raw Camera Workflow which includes processing your images, image editing, color correction, color management and large format inkjet printing.  We will cover everything from the basic camera settings to advanced color management workflow and printing procedures.  You do not need to be an expert in Photoshop to take advantage of this course.  All students should have a camera that provides the Raw File Format.  Lab fees are included.
