The Summer Montserrat Pre-College Art Program is for students who have the initiative for rigorous art instruction at the college-level. Our summer art courses are designed to challenge your assumptions, test your theories and encourage you to take your art in surprising new directions. The art curriculum includes a foundation class plus two elective courses to strengthen your technical skills, creative problem solving, and build your portfolio for admissions. Students participate in open studios, visit artist workshops and gallery talks, attend portfolio reviews and an exhibit their work on the last day of the program.
At Montserrat, all of our rooms are apartment-style, so you don’t have to live in a bare cubicle. Our new state of the art housing features eco-friendly design. It offers apartments with kitchens, shared living rooms, and large common areas flooded with natural light. To assist students and ensure that their stay is safe and enjoyable, summer Resident Assistants reside with Pre-College students. Students have a wide range of food options, from eating out to cooking for themselves or for friends. This approach gives students life skills that will come in handy later.
Students enjoy the Boston area’s cultural and natural resources by visiting major museums, galleries, artist studios, historical sites and beaches during weekend and evening hours. We will visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Newbury Street Galleries, Quincy Market in Boston, and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem among others.
