UBUNTU: I Am Because We Are: Art from the Juvenile Justice System and Beyond

Kate Jellinghaus is curating a large exhibit of youth art for the Mark W. Potter Gallery at The Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut. The exhibit is entitled: UBUNTU: I Am Because We Are: Art from the Juvenile Justice System and Beyond. It includes work from both the Boston and New York branches of Artistic Noise, a non-profit organization that brings art programming to system-involved youth. The show runs from November 6th – December 4th.

Storytelling through Pictures: Comic Art Workshops

Saturdays: July 11, 18, & 25 from 9am – 12pm

Pre-registration required:
$30 for a single workshop, $75 for all three
Ages: 9 – 12

Instructor: Kevin Ilacqua, Montserrat College of Art Student

Learn how to tell a story through pictures.  Come and have fun learning to draw some of your favorite comic book super-heroes, cartoon characters, funny animals, Japanese Anime and Manga. You will learn how to create and design your own comic character in these workshops.  Learn the basic techniques of pencil sketching. If you like comics and like to draw this class is for you.

Kevin Ilacqua is a junior at Montserrat College of Art majoring in illustration.  Montserrat students of illustration are experts in understanding and creating pictures that inform, entertain and persuade audiences.  Illustrations students are trained to draw, paint, sculpt and create by fine artists and working illustrators.

Founded in 1970, Montserrat College of Art is a four-year art college located in Beverly, MA offering an accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts. The continuing education department offers evening, weekend and daytime courses for adults and teens on the North Shore.
