Salt of the Earth

June 17, 2009

June 5 – July 24, 2009

Montserrat College of Art Gallery presents New Art Collective 2009, a summer biennial featuring contemporary artists selected by a small group of Boston area curators. Each curator selects a contemporary artist with no restrictions except that they illuminate the theme “Salt of the Earth.”

The common English expression “salt of the earth” has shifted from its scriptural origins to refer to someone who is humble and lacking pretension. This exhibition will feature artwork that possesses a sense of intimacy, immediacy, and directness, playing off of and giving new relevance to the phrase.
