Montserrat’s student run Bear Gallery’s Spring Sculpture Show 2012 that will be taking place at the historical John Hale House.

Student sculptures will be on display at the Hale Farm from Tuesday, May 15 through Friday, June 22.

Montserrat College of Art’s annual benefit art auction Artrageous!26 has become the North Shore’s signature spring event! This year it will be held Saturday, May 12 from 6 – 11 pm at 300 Jubilee Drive, Centennial Park in Peabody, MA. The space has a great urban feel within a great big warehouse, which was donated by this year’s host Brookwood Financial Partners L.P.We are expecting over 640 attendees for the night of!

The auction site will be available for FREE Public Previewing May 9 – 11 from noon – 4 pm. Plus a Special Chamber Preview night will be May 9th from 5 – 7 pm!

Arielle Winchester ’12

And to top it all off, Winchester already has plans for post-graduation! She has recently been hired for a full-time position at Montserrat’s Board of Trustee member Don Bowen‘s company, Meridian Associates, as their Marketing Coordinator! She was offered the opportunity after interning with them last summer.

During her internship at Meridian, Winchester worked closely with their Business Coordinator, Melissa Fahey, who was planning her wedding at the time. Fahey hired Winchester to do some freelance design work to help create her wedding materials when she wasn’t busy working in the office.

In her work, Winchester hopes to bridge the gap between tactile and digital design. Through her education and freelance work she has gained experience in everything from marketing, to web coding, to letterpress. A tremendous amount of effort, care and passion go into every project that she takes on.

Prof. Barbara Moody will be exhibiting a solo show at the Kingston Gallery next month titled Cave Dwellers.

Over the past eight years, Moody’s work has focused on animal imagery, piles of debris, and unusual ecosystems. In Cave Dwellers, she has combined these interests to explore the dark world of caves, caverns, and tunnels. This new series includes large-scale cave/graffiti drawings, paintings, and collages printed on vinyl. Manipulating and collaging old animal engravings, Moody subtly offers clues to the history of the caves’ former inhabitants. Bits of fur, skin, teeth, and claws suggest predators and prey snaking through tunnels and cohabiting in a confined space. The layers of mark-making suggest memories once etched into cave walls and still present.

“The Fremont County permit is essential to realizing this temporary work of art that Jeanne-Claude and I first envisioned nearly 20 years ago,” said Christo. “I am very pleased that the Commissioners have voted to approve this public work of art for Fremont County, and I want to thank them for their hard work and efforts in evaluating our application. I am glad to be moving forward with our plans to complete Over The River.”

The Board of Commissioners and County staff solicited extensive public comment when reviewing Christo’s permit application. They also considered the Bureau of Land Management’s extensive analysis of the project, as well as the nearly 200 mitigation measures addressing community and environmental concerns, as described in the Final Environmental Impact Statement. Christo is very pleased that, after carefully evaluating all aspects of the project, the Commissioners reached the same conclusion as other regulatory agencies in supporting the realization of Over The River.

Over The River will have significant benefits for Fremont County and all of Colorado, both culturally and economically. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will not only boost tourism and provide worldwide exposure for the area, but it is also expected to generate $583,000 in additional sales tax revenues within Fremont and Chaffee Counties alone.

As part of Fremont County’s Temporary Use Permit, Christo has agreed to more than 30 specific conditions. For example, Christo has committed to fund a wide variety of costs that the County may incur as a result of Over The River, including reimbursements for staff time and funds to mitigate project-related road impacts. Through the sale of his original works of art, Christo and Jeanne-Claude always funded their projects without any public subsidies, grants, commercial advertising or taxpayer support.

Christo’s next step is to submit an application to Chaffee County for a Temporary Special Events Permit, which is expected to happen within the next few weeks. Assuming the remaining permits are successfully secured, Over The River installation will begin in early 2013 with exhibition planned for August 2015.

DEPTH is a multi sensory exhibition of works presented by Brett Mason, Cecilia Major, Allyson Voner, Sarah Gallant, Alyssa Kingston, William Wareham, Thomas Mazzaglia Jr. and Leah Rafaela Ceriello.

From mining the DEPTH of the human psyche, to creating the illusion of DEPTH on the two-dimensional plane, each artist’s rumination on the concept of DEPTH is represented. Through a diverse range of media, such as painting, sculpture, performance, participatory installation, printmaking, traditional film and still photography, each artist also explores the breadth and DEPTH of their institutional training at Montserrat College of Art.
