Bear Gallery at Porter Mill

The Gallery at Porter Mill is hosting an exhibit this month in collaboration with Montserrat’s student run Bear Gallery entitled Bound and Written. The exhibition features book arts and letterpress work from the students at Montserrat’s celebrated and inventive Book Arts and Printmaking program. The exhibit will run through Feb. 26th.

This show was made possible by alumna Bea Modisett ’07 from Porter Mill and the Bear Gallery student staff of Jordan Archey ‘13, Liz Sultzer ‘13 and Arielle Winchester ‘12.

Gallery Hours: W, Th, F 5 – 7 pm, Sa 11 am – 2 pm, and by appointment. Studios at Porter Mill is located at 95 Rantoul Street, Beverly.

The Bear Gallery Upcoming Shows

First, The Bear Gallery and the Studios at Porter Mill will be hosting a collaborative exhibit entitled, Bound and Written. This exhibition features book arts and letterpress work from the students at Montserrat’s celebrated and inventive Book Arts and Printmaking program. The show will run from Feb. 2 – 24 with a reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 6 – 8 pm at the Gallery at Porter Mill. This show has been made possible by alumna Bea Modisett ’07 from Porter Mill and the Bear Gallery student staff of Jordan Archey ‘13, Liz Sultzer ‘13 and Arielle Winchester ‘12.

The gallery is open Thu – Fri, 5 – 7pm and Sat from 11am – 2pm and by appointment. Studios at Porter Mill is located at 95 Rantoul Street.

Second, The Bear Gallery and the Beverly Historical Society are collaborating on an exhibition which will be on view Feb. 6 – March 31 at the Beverly Historical Society’s Cabot House located at 117 Cabot St.  A reception will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 6-8 pm.

Historical Society Curator of Collections Darren Brown coordinated the project with Montserrat students Grant Archer, Emily Fung, Liz Sultzer ‘13, Jordan Archey ‘13 and Arielle Winchester ‘12 with assistance from Montserrat Gallery Education Coordinator Maggie Cavallo. The exhibition will include works created by Montserrat College of Art students, inspired by pieces from the historical society’s collections, which will also be on view.

The exhibit will be on view during the Beverly Historical Society’s regular hours, Tue, Thu, Fri and Sat 10am -4pm and Wed 1 – 9pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors/students and free for members and children under 16.  Montserrat students will be admitted free of charge during the run of the exhibition.

Last Bear Gallery Show of the Semester

The Bear Gallery’s last show for the fall semester entitled Micro to Macro will begin on Friday, Nov. 18th with two receptions from noon – 1 p.m. and an additional opening from 7 – 9 p.m. in the evening with food and a small dance party!

The Bear Gallery is located in the basement of the New Student village. The Student Village is directly across from Montserrat’s Hardie Building.

Montserrat’s Bear Gallery Organizes Student Show at the Crane Estate

Juniors Morgan Dyer and Bianca Picozzi outside the Crane Estate during Montserrat’s Opening Reception. Morgan ended up selling a set of three of her paintings!

About 30 Montserrat students and  alumni displayed over 50 pieces art at The Crane Estate’s Annual Art Show in the Casino Complex, Saturday, Nov. 5th.  Junior Morgan Dyer, along with sophomore Dominique Butori, and junior Mackenzie Strong ended up selling their work at the show! Around 600 people visited the Casino exhibitions!

Montserrat’s exhibition came to be with the help of Asst. Prof. Len Thomas-Vickory, director of The Bear Gallery and its fantastic student staff: senior Jordan Archey, juniors Elizabeth Sultzer and Grant Archer, sophomore Emily Fung, and Jensina Ohly!

The event was also featured in The Salem News!

Montserrat Student Work at Crane Estate

Montserrat students will be showing 52 pieces of work this weekend at the Annual Crane Estate Art Show, curated by The Bear Gallery staff!

There will be an Opening Reception for the Montserrat Exhibit Saturday, Nov. 5th from 2 – 4 pm in the Casino Complex

Montserrat’s Work at Crane Estate featured in The Salem News!

Montserrat students have created a “participatory Zen rock garden” outside, between the casino buildings, where their work will be displayed with “gravel and rocks and rakes where people can move things around and change them,” said Trina Schell, program and volunteer manager for the Crane Estate. “This is a new aspect.
