Saturday, March 3, 10–4pm: Learn the basics of product photography to showcase your best work for online use. Learn basic lighting, camera settings, photo editing using Adobe Photoshop, and the best ways to output and save images to use for the web.  Taught by Amy Lithimane.

ETSY FOR ARTISTS
Saturday, March 17, 10–4pm: Learn to sell your fine art or handmade goods outside of a gallery! Learn tips for artists and creative professionals on using personal websites, Etsy, craft fairs and social media to sell your work. Taught by Elise Towle Snow.

WEBSITES FOR ARTISTS
Saturday, March 31, 10-4pm: Tackle the daunting task of creating your portfolio website. By using the website service Other People’s Pixels, you can launch your own, personalized portfolio website in a single day! Taught by Chelsea Sams.

Continuing Education Watercolor Instructor and artist Robin Samiljan will be speaking in The Business of the Arts: Successful Self-Promotion at the Salem State University’s Enterprise Center, 121 Loring Ave in Salem Wednesday, Feb. 8, 8:30 – 10:30 am. Robin’s artist talk is FREE, but registration is required! Click here to sign up!

Robin is a successful working artist and instructor who has “been there, done that!” She will be giving the low-down on how to build your résumé and website, and offer advice on how to get your work out there and create visibility. This includes reaching out to galleries, public libraries and other creative venues; getting into juried art shows; and showing your art online. The film series is produced by The Northeast Institute for Analog Studies, an organization specializing in the reclaimation and proliferation of “shadow based” media.  Ethan Berry manages “The Institute” from the Montserrat’s Photography Department, which holds a substantial collection of objects.  This is the first time The Institute has worked with 17 Cox, an exhibition space in Beverly that proclaims to be “the most efficient visual art center in the world”.  17 Cox is directed by Lucas Spivey, Exhibitions Manager for Montserrat Galleries.

Students in summer workshop classes taught by artists Sigrid Olsen www.sigridolsenart.com and Joel Janowitz http://www.joeljanowitz.com enjoy a break at the end of the day, after working hard all week in their full-day classes.

Thursday after class receptions are a highlight of the week as the artists get to meet, discuss their work and talk about future projects.

Curated by Setheyny Pen, “Seeing in Color” focuses on color exploration with innovative techniques and through a range of individual expression and symbolism. Created by five artists, they wrap around the walls of the gallery to create a mesmerizing and electric atmosphere.  The artists in “Seeing in Color” use color explicitly to achieve very different ends. Their paintings vary in temperament from animated to somber. Their surfaces range from thin glazes to thick impastos.

Join Montserrat Continuing Education Instructor Maria Malatesta at a reception featuring her work, Fri., Oct. 29th, from 5:30 – 8 pm at Beverly’s Mingo Gallery. Malatesta, who specializes in painting and mixed media, will be exhibiting a variety of pieces, including her signature landscape-based abstract paintings.

Storytelling through Pictures: Comic Art Workshops

Learn how to tell a story through pictures.  Come and have fun learning to draw some of your favorite comic book super-heroes, cartoon characters, funny animals, Japanese Anime and Manga. You will learn how to create and design your own comic character in these workshops.  Learn the basic techniques of pencil sketching. If you like comics and like to draw this class is for you.

Kevin Ilacqua is a junior at Montserrat College of Art majoring in illustration.  Montserrat students of illustration are experts in understanding and creating pictures that inform, entertain and persuade audiences.  Illustrations students are trained to draw, paint, sculpt and create by fine artists and working illustrators.

Founded in 1970, Montserrat College of Art is a four-year art college located in Beverly, MA offering an accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts. The continuing education department offers evening, weekend and daytime courses for adults and teens on the North Shore.
