Alumna Sarah Dineen Hosts Open Studio

Prof. Rob Roy Awarded First Prize

Rob Roy, "Witness #37"

Professor and Chair of the Painting and Drawing Department Rob Roy was awarded first prize in the Monotype/Monoprint exhibition at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Juror Joann Moser, Senior Curator of Graphic Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, recognized Roy’s “Witness #37” for its quality as a print that pushes the definition of monotype and for its social content. Monotype/Monoprint is on view through January 2, 2011. Roy’s work is also in thINK at the Belmont Art Gallery in Belmont from Oct. 15 – Nov. 19. Organized by the Boston Printmakers, thINK will travel to additional venues through 2012.

Greg Cook’s Work at Fourth Wall Project

Montserrat Senior Seminar faculty member Greg Cook will be showing
his work in “Right Thing The Wrong Way: The Story of Highwater Books”
at Fourth Wall Project, 132 Brookline Ave., Boston, from Oct. 1 to
24. An  opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday,
Oct. 1.

The show features the drawings, paintings, posters and books by
artists of Cambridge’s amazing art comics publisher Highwater Books,
which before it went bust in 2004 pushed all of North American
alternative comics in a new direction. The exhibition also includes
publication of a catalogue with an essay by Tom Spurgeon and an oral
history of Highwater Books by Cook.

Congrats to Montserrat College of Art student Jensina Ohly! For the first show at the Bear Gallery this year, Jensina Ohly acted as lead curator for the “Wabi Sabi” show. Jensina joined the Bear staff in August. In this position she worked with the Bear Gallery staff and the artists to bring the Bear Gallery space up to speed. This past weekend she collaborated with others to bring together a successful show. As Len Thomas-Vickory stated, “She learned quickly and was incredibly dedicated.”

Avoid food products containing ingredients that a third grader cannot pronounce.

Make sure to get over to the YMCA and join the Oceanfront Walking Group on Thursday mornings at 8:45 a.m. Faculty and staff welcome!

Prof. Barbara Moody in New Art Book

Professor Barbara Moody’s work has been published in a new book, Acrylic Innovation: Styles and Techniques Featuring 64 Visionary Artists, by Nancy Reyner, Northlight Books, 2010.  Two full pages feature photos of Barbara and her work, as well as text describing her process of painting.
