Montserrat College of Art’s Artrageous! 23 benefit art auction on May 9, 2009, was a resounding success, thanks to a large and enthusiastic crowd, a beautiful loft-like space at 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, donated by the Goggin Co., and the donations of our many artist friends who make this event possible each year. The auction raised more than $200,000, the majority of which will go to student scholarship, and a total of $14,800 which will be dedicated to improving technology in several Montserrat College of Art classrooms. We give warm thanks to our Featured Artist, Robert Eshoo, who spoke of the importance of the arts in education and to society, to our Honorary Co-Chairs, Don and Linda Comb of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and to our dedicated Co-Chairs Linda Harvey and Jon Barrett Gray, who led a team of hardworking auction committee volunteers. The auction included more than 200 pieces of contemporary art by some of the country’s most respected and well-known artists, including the iconic painter/printmaker Will Barnet of New York City, Norman Laliberté, Julie Mehretu, Brian Ulrich, Dave Kinsey, George Gabin, Oliver Balf, and a number of prominent faculty and alumni of the college.
