The Writing Center: Get Help Writing an Artist Statement and More

Montserrat's Writing Center at the Montserrat College of Art in Massachusetts offers free services available to all students, to assist in the development of writing, test taking, note taking and research skills - all of which will help you when writing papers, writing an artist statement, and in life. Students of all proficiency levels are welcome to sign up for appointments, and students who are looking for a place to just study or work on papers may come and use the Writing Center's facilities at any time during open library hours.

Location:
2nd floor of the library, in the Hardie Building

The Writing Center and staff will:

  • Teach you to edit your own work
  • Assist in the organizational and prewriting process for papers and assignments and writing an artist’s statement
  • Offer study and note taking seminars and suggestions
  • Provide some grammar help, and offer resources for improving grammar skills
  • Teach and assist with the revision process
  • Teach proper citation and source techniques (works cited pages, MLA format)

The Writing Center does not:

  • Edit your papers for you
  • Write any part of your paper

How to use the Writing Center when writing an artist statement or other written materials::

Make an appointment: Students may sign up for up to an hour a week of individual instruction. Sign up sheets are located in the black book outside Colleen's door. Sign up early—slots fill up quickly! If the Center isn't busy, more time can be allotted for individuals.

Drop in: Come up and see if someone is available to work with you. If we're free, we are happy to work with you.
