The AICAD Mobility Program provides an opportunity for Montserrat students to study for one semester at another AICAD institution. It offers the experience and benefit of studying at a different institution while living in a different geographic area. Mobility students remain registered at Montserrat; retaining residency and student aid eligibility and receive credit towards completion of the Montserrat degree or diploma.

To apply, students must be:

  • In their Junior year (60 or more credits)
  • Full-time students
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA and in good college standing
  • Meet the eligibility requirements of their specific program

Host schools are under no obligation to accept all students who apply for Mobility.


General Information


  • Students are considered Montserrat Students and register for classes at Montserrat for the semester they plan on returning.

  • Grades received from the host institution become part of the student’s official record at Montserrat and are figured into the student’s cumulative GPA.

  • Housing is the responsibility of the student. The Host Institution may offer assistance in locating housing when available. Fees for room and board are billed and payable to the Host Institution.

  • The Host Institution retains sole discretion to accept or deny individual applications and in determining the total number of mobility students that will be accepted during a given semester.

  • Students may not apply for permanent transfer to the Host Institution while participating in the Mobility Program.


Application Procedure

Applications forms can be picked up from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Students are responsible for the timely completion and submission of the application materials.


Application Materials


  • Mobility Application form, including permission signatures;

  • Proposed program of study for Mobility semester;

  • Completed Statement of Purpose;

  • Current transcript for all college-level work form Montserrat;

  • 6-10 electronic images or slides of work, including work in the proposed area of study, labeled with student’s name, title of work, medium and dimensions. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of slides. Do not send your only set of slides.


Application Deadlines:

Materials must be received by the Host Institution by:

November 1st for the spring semester

April 10th for the fall semester



NY STUDIO PROGRAM


The New York Studio Program enables third-year students to spend a semester in New York City through the Parsons School of Design.

General Information:

  • Students remain formally registered at Montserrat and pay their normal home tuition to Montserrat.

  • Participating faculty grade and evaluate student work in the program. Parsons/NSU will issue a formal transcript for credit and degree requirements to Montserrat.

  • Students have visiting student status at Parsons School of Design giving them access to all university student services including libraries, cafeterias, health services and extracurricular activities. Students are not eligible to enroll in classes outside the program.


CHOOSE FROM TWO EXCITING OPTIONS:


Independent Studio Program


  • Access to individual workspace 15 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Weekly Critique Session with two faculty artists who alternate. This session runs about 7 hours and varies form one-on-one meetings of 30 minutes to group critiques.

  • Mid-semester critique involving the critique faculty, the seminar faculty and a visiting critic or artist.


Application materials required for Independent Studio Students:


  • Application approval by an academic advisor;

  • A Statement of Purpose indicating personal and creative/professional reasons for attending the New York Studio Program;

  • Most recent academic transcript;

  • 6-10 slides or electronic images of most recent work or a CD/DVD of a recent project;

  • Official Recommendation Forms filled out by two faculty and/or professionals.



Internship Program

  • Students work directly in the studios or firms of a professional designers and artists.

  • Internship participants take the Contemporary Art Seminar with the Independent Studio participants for 3 credits, but are invited to participate in the Critiques Sessions as well, job time permitting.

  • Although not guaranteed a studio space, they share one studio space. Individual spaces are given as available. Photography interns have first use of the small darkroom.



Application materials required for Internship Students:


  • Completed Application forms;

  • A resume of previous work experience if you have any;

  • A written statement explaining what you hope to accomplish and learn in the internship, adding a description of your particular skills and abilities;

  • Two letters of recommendation supporting your plan and attesting to your creative commitment, maturity, and readiness to undertake an Internship, living in a challenging environment and working with professionals;

  • A list of prospective employers or fields of internship.


Application Deadline: All application materials must be submitted by May 15th for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.
